So how "traditional" do these explosions have to be? I was thinking of using less "firey" explosions, more on the lines of, say exploding food (think a banana bomb :D) Is this okay?

I'm certain that as long as you don't need to explain to the reviewer how you applied element X, the implementation is fine.
