rec.games.programmer is (in theory) obsolete. I realize people still post there, but it was semi-officially reorganized years ago into the ''comp.games.development.*''
groups. Examples:
comp.games.development.design
comp.games.development.industry
comp.games.development.programming.algorithms
comp.games.development.programming.misc

rec.games.design has some good stuff too (often, but not always as it''s not necessarily geared towards programmers).
